MIRROR

2013 PRODUCER, DOUG AITKEN WORKSHOP

Installed on the facade of the Seattle Art Museum in downtown Seattle, MIRROR is a modern, urban earthwork. Using an array of LED lights installed into the architectural contours of the building, MIRROR responds to the environment in real time. Hundreds of hours of moving image are continuously edited by custom software that takes in local conditions including weather information, pedestrian movement, light and atmospheric conditions to create a dynamic representation of the changing environment of the Pacific Northwest. We assembled a team of leading systems design firms and creative technologists to fabricate a bespoke editorial system for this continually-changing dynamic installation. For the premier, the entire block was shut down for a musical performance by the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.
